ECUAD Web Dev 2 Final Assignment

The final assignment of the class is worth 50% of the course mark.

Typically in this course, students have made portfolio sites using WordPress child themes that they write. If you wish to make a site of some other content, get in touch and we’ll discuss the idea.

A child theme piggybacks on the functioning and appearance of a parent theme, so the choice of parent theme is important.

The Task:

  • Get a domain name and hosting
  • Create and post engaging content that does an excellent job of representing you professionally
  • Find a theme and (possibly) plugins that showcase that content effectively
  • Create and activateWordPress child theme for the site
  • Configure the theme and plugins
  • Follow WordPress security and performance best practices

Your Site Must Have:

  • Automated BackUp
  • Contact Form
  • Akismet anti-spam service set up (choose the free level)
  • Recommended: turning commenting on posts OFF
  • Feature Images
  • Semantic Markup: proper heading levels, ALT attributes on images, etc.
  • Reasonable image file sizes
  • A professional focus in design, typography, textual content, color, and images
  • Enough content to represent you well
  • A logical and consistent navigation scheme

Your Site Must Not Have:

  • Any content that you did not create
  • Lorem ipsum text

What to Hand In

In my Dropbox, you will hand in a zip archive of a folder with a title of your-first-and-last-name-final-project (dashes, no spaces).

That folder will contain:

  • A Duplicator archive of your live site
  • A .txt file with the URL of your live site.
